Kaylee Jeffrey
Kaylee is a senior at the Metropolitan State College of Denver majoring in social work and will be obtaining her BSW in May, 2011. Kaylee has devoted her free-time as a teenager, and now an adult, to working with under-privileged youth in both the disciplinary and recreational setting. After spending several years employed by the Boys and Girls Club of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Kaylee has developed a keen sense of different ways to relate to and bond with kids in all settings. Since then, she has volunteered at an elementary school, tutoring kids in reading, spent time coaching youth volleyball, and teaching discipline as a court mentor. An athlete who loves all sports, Kaylee has a true appreciation for how sports can teach discipline and compromise in all areas of life. Kaylee is very eager to begin this truly valuable experience at cityWILD and expand her knowledge about the outdoors!
Nate Stratton (Photo coming soon)
Nate is an illustrious second year student in the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver. He graduated from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 2006 where he received his versatile and cutting-edge undergraduate degree in Mediaeval History. While in Scotland, Nate also caught the outdoors and traveling fever – an ailment which he has still not recovered from. Nate has worked as an English teacher in Japan, volunteered for an anti-human trafficking NGO in Taiwan, done community development work in China, been a field instructor for a wilderness therapy group in Utah, and lead trail crews in Vermont composed of high-risk youth. Nate is excited – and quite possibly jazzed – for the opportunity to work with cityWILD and continue involving students in the outdoors.
Sarah Smith
Sarah is a first year Social Work Masters student at the University of Denver. She graduated with her bachelor's of science in Psychology from Ithaca College in upstate New York in 2007. Since then she has volunteered with AmeriCorps in Federal Way, Washington, tutoring at a elementary school and participating in various community service projects. Upon finishing her year of service with AmeriCorps, Sarah moved to North Carolina to be a counselor at a wilderness therapy program for teens. Sarah has learned the amazing healing power of nature and outdoor activities for those who are struggling, and is extremely excited to work with cityWILD to get to know the teens participating in the program to share her enthusiasm and love for the outdoors!
